The Heritage of Ancient Greece
People began forming civilizations in Greece around 2000 BC. The first Greek civilization formed was the Minoan Civilazation
which grew on Crete. Shortly after the Minoan Civ. was formed, Achaeans invaded the Greek peninsula. They pushed farther south
and intermarried with the locals. Eventually by around 1400 BC the Achaeans controlled Aegean and were probably occuping Knossos,
the center of Minoan Civ. Around 1250 BC The Achaeans attacked Troy starting the famous Trojan War. After 750 BC independent
city-states began to emerge in Greece. Around 500 BC the Persian Wars began which resulted in a Greek victory
and increased wealth and power of Athens. During the 5th and 4th centuries BC Greek reached its highest point of power.
During the 4th century BC (between 300BC and 400BC) Alexadner the Great conquered a huge empire and spread the Greek
heritage to most of the conquered peoples. In 146 BC Greece fell to Roman rule.
